Blue Skies and Apple Pies

My Fall To Do List is really shaping up!  Look how many things I have already crossed off the list!  This past weekend I visited the Covered Bridge Festival with my friend and I have big plans of visiting a haunted house, carving a pumpkin, and watching Hocus Pocus for this week.  I can't wait!

1. Visit a Pumpkin Patch
2. Make Pumpkin Pie
3. Make Chili
4. Drink Homemade Hot Cocoa snuggled up on the couch
5. Carve a Pumpkin
6. Decorate my apartment for Halloween
7. Walk through a Corn Maze
8. Make Wassill
9. Watch Hocus Pocus
10. Make homemade Slit Pea Soup
11. Go on a Fall Picnic
12. Watch "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown"
13. Go on a Fall bike ride
14. Go to a Haunted House
15. Go to a chilly football game and snuggle up in a blanket
16. Play in the leaves
17. Visit an Apple Orchard
18. Visit the Covered Bridge Festival

Weekend before last we visited an apple orchard with my cousin, her husband, and their cute lil boy Cannon!  It was perfect weather.  Perfect.  I had never been to pick apples before and it was a neat experience.

We ate fresh caramel apples before we got started.  These definitely beat the caramel apples that you get in the store.  So good, in fact, that I didn't even mind that my fingers were sticky for the remainder of the afternoon.

And then we all got on a wagon to head out to the orchard to pick out apples.  It was beautiful!  Whenever I do things like this I always gets these crazy thoughts in my head like, "Maybe we should run our own apple orchard."  Then I remember reality... like the fact that I would hate doing farmwork, I know nothing about raising apple trees, live in a loft apartment with no yard for even one tree, and that I can't even keep alive a house plant.  I tend to get swept away in the moment.  :)

Regardless, it was a great afternoon and Cannon loved it!

This guy even had fun.  He picked more apples that I did!  So far I've made homemade applesauce which was deicious, and I think I still have enough apples left for an apple pie!

Sometimes the Simple Things are the best things.

Friends and Turkey.

A few weeks ago I was in Bloomington and met up with some friends.  These two.  Aren't they so cute and Bloomington-esque?  We had dinner at a Turkish restaurant.  It was delish!

And look at this one.  So cute in her scarf.

Have you ever had Turkish coffee?  I love trying new things.

Happy Monday!

Bittersweets.

As much as this month has been filled with making great memories and making the most of the weather, it has also been filled with the bittersweet.

A couple weeks ago, before the leaves had fully started to change, I made the my way back to my childhood home.  The one where I lived from age four until I left home for college, and later on, for good after marrying Caleb.

I returned home to say goodbye.  My mom decided to sell the house and start a new adventure with her boyfriend, Tom.  As much as I am happy for my mom's fresh start, I mourn the loss of the home in which I grew up.

My childhood bedroom that has long shredded its childhood garb for a more sophisticated style.  I still see flowered wallpaper, cream carpets stained with Tinker Bell nail polish, and littered with a little girls collection of stuffed animals and dolls.

The room where I spent playing Barbie's with my girlfriends and melting inappropriate objects in my Easy Bake Oven.  Which later became a hangout for friends to paint nails, gossip, and giggle about boys.  Where I made out with boyfriends and later shared my first kiss with my husband.

It's difficult to think about a new new inhabitant, but somewhat comforting.  I can imagine a new little girl with new memories to be developed in the comforts of this space.  I think about her looking our window... into the woods and cornfield... imagining all the possibilities of her future like I once did.

The woods where I made forts with my cousins, one of which has left us and moved to the beyond.  Where secret societies were formed, complete with secret handshakes and passwords required for entry.  Where my pop target practiced with his bow and arrow.  Where I pretended I was a scientist conducting experiments and making concoctions out of the dirt and and leaves.

The woods where I got my first skinned knee and my Pop told me, "Thats what life is like living in the country.  Be tough."

The place I was married.  Where I walked out my front door, grasping the arms of my mother and grandfather, into the arms of my loving husband.  My future.

The walls of the home that hold my holiday memories.  Happy memories.  Sad memories.  Most importantly, my memories with my father.  The place in which I have always returned, but will return no more.

Standing in my yard... for possibly the very last time... I couldn't help but wonder if anyone could possible love this home as much as me.  I hope so.  How could they not?

Fall To Do List.

Summer has always been my favorite season, but Fall is giving it a run for its money.  In an effort to get the most out of the time of year I started a mental checklist of the things that I want to do before the temperatures plummet to sub-zero chilliness bringing that awful thing we know as snow.

I tried to include Caleb in this list making, but after asking five times what he would like to add and his answer was "watch football" every time, I finally gave up and decided this was a list making was better completed on my own.

My list is pretty ambitious, but my philosophy always seems to be "Go Big or Go Home."

1. Visit a Pumpkin Patch
2. Make Pumpkin Pie
3. Make Chili
4. Drink Homemade Hot Cocoa snuggled up on the couch
5. Carve a Pumpkin
6. Decorate my apartment for Halloween
7. Walk through a Corn Maze
8. Make Wassill
9. Watch Hocus Pocus
10. Make homemade Slit Pea Soup
11. Go on a Fall Picnic
12. Watch "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown"
13. Go on a Fall bike ride
14. Go to a Haunted House
15. Go to a chilly football game and snuggle up in a blanket
16. Play in the leaves
17. Visit an Apple Orchard
18. Visit the Covered Bridge Festival

You get the idea... in my head the list keeps on growing and growing...

Already I've visited a Pumpkin Patch with my Mama...

As well as drank hot cocoa snuggled on the couch and I made chili.  Most recently, just this afternoon, Caleb and I went on a Fall bike ride, played in the leaves, and enjoyed Split Pea Soup that he made in the Crock Pot.

Yes, I wore a helmet, but my head needed a breather!

As I keep rattling on about my list Caleb continually asks me why I feel the need to make lists.  I explained to him that I want to get the most out of the season as I can. "Bang for my buck" I guess you could say.  My favorite blogger's whole philosophy is to make the most out of life and all of the experiences that you have or create.  And who couldn't use a few more trips to apple orchards or opportunities to slow down and enjoy the beauty of the changing leaves?

How are you making the most out of Fall?

Wedding Bells.

The weekend before last Caleb and I attended a wedding.

What a beautiful place to have a wedding!

And an even more beautiful bride!

I love weddings.  I love what they represent.  I love dancing like a fool.  I love drinking free wine.  Mostly, I love getting together with friends.  We don't get together enough.

Look at this Hot Mama!  I miss her so.

I know I'm still young, but I'm noticing that I'm not as young as I used to be.  Look at those lines around my eyes... laugh lines, I tell you.  I wouldn't mind a few more of those...

And her sweet little baby, Nolan.

What an amazing way to begin Fall!  The happy couple is off on their honeymoon.  Jealous.  :)
